lithium can cause acne

acne can be caused by many things like hormones imbalance, allergic reactions and also side effects of using chemical based cosmetics. there are also certain medications that have also shown to induce acne and lithium is one of them. lithium is usually prescribed to patients who have depression and other psychological problems. a study indicates that patients who were having lithium for depression reported to have encountered acne conglobata.

this disorder seemed to decrease once the dosage of lithium was reduced.

so if you encounter acne during your treatment you should report it to your physician who might suggest you to lower your dosage. in that case you will be rid of your new found acne problem after some time. but in certain cases acne remains on your skin even after you have stopped lithium based treatment. in this case you would have to start a treatment for your acne which might take persistence and time. i personally recommend that in this scenario you go for a natural treatment option as they have minimal to no side effects and have shown to be effective as well.
